Dr Donald John MacLean

President

  • Donald John MacLean (BSc, Heriot-Watt University; PhD, University of Wales, Trinity Saint David) is a minister of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of England and Wales, and serves as an elder at Cambridge Presbyterian Church, where he preaches regularly. With a background in senior leadership in the corporate finance sector, Dr MacLean also serves as a trustee of the Banner of Truth Trust and of Tyndale House, Cambridge. He edits The Presbyterian Network for the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of England and Wales and is associate editor of the Banner of Truth magazine. DJ is married to Ruth and they have two children, Hannah and Jonathan.

Rev Dr Ian Hamilton

  • Ian Hamilton (BA, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow; BD, University of Edinburgh; MPhil, University of Edinburgh, 1980; DD: GPTS) has been a pastor for thirty five years, most recently in Cambridge Presbyterian Church. He is a Trustee and Adjunct Professor of Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. He has previously lectured at London Seminary and Edinburgh Theological Seminary and served as magazine Editor and Board member of the Banner of Truth Trust. Ian is an author and international speaker, and a co-founder of Westminster Seminary UK.

Rev Dan Peters

Chair of Homiletics

  • Dan Peters (BTh. Edinburgh Theological Seminary, MTh. Edinburgh Theological Seminary) is the minister of Newcastle Reformed Evangelical Church. He previously served as the assistant minister of Cambridge Presbyterian Church and has also lectured at Edinburgh Theological Seminary.

Dr Benedict Bird

  • Dr. Benedict Bird (MA, University of Cambridge; ThM, Westminster Theological Seminary; PhD, University of Cambridge) is Adjunct Professor of New Testament Greek at Westminster. His doctoral work was on John Owen and the doctrine of the perseverance of the saints. He has taught Biblical Greek and Hebrew at London Seminary and serves as a trustee of London Seminary and Ebenezer Chapel, Luton. Before training as a theologian he worked for twenty years as an intellectual property lawyer in London. He and his wife are members of Cambridge Presbyterian Church.

Rev Tom Hutchings

  • Rev Tom Hutchings (BA, MA, University of Cambridge; DipTh, Ridley Hall, Cambridge) was the Associate Vicar of St Andrew the Great, Cambridge, before moving to Kingham Hill School, where he oversees the work of the Chaplaincy and teaches A Level Classical Civilisation and Theology.  He is a member and elder of Oxford Presbyterian Church. Tom loves sport and exercise, crosswords, board games and reading. He is married to Andria, and they have four children.

Rev Andy Young

  • Andrew J. Young is originally from Cardiff and studied at Cambridge University. He has advanced degrees from Reformed Theological Seminary and Westminster Theological Seminary in the US. Andy is a Banner Trustee and Chairman of the Westminster Conference for Theological & Historical Study – a UK conference that celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2025. In 2018, after serving as the minister of Cheltenham Presbyterian Church for ten years, Andy became the minister of Oxford Evangelical Presbyterian Church, a new church planted in the centre of Oxford, England. He is a frequent speaker at conferences in the UK.

Rev David Pfeiffer

  • David Pfeiffer (MA, University of Cambridge; PGCE, University of Cambridge; Theological Studies at London Seminary), is a minister of Whaddon Road Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPCEW) in Cheltenham. He is the current Moderator of EPCEW, and he also examines prospective ministers in New Testament Greek. He has been a visiting lecturer in Old Testament at London Seminary since 2017.

VISITING LECTURERS

Rev Christopher Ash

  • Christopher Ash is a preacher, teacher, and writer. He was Director of the Proclamation Trust’s Cornhill Training Course in London from 2004 to 2015. Christopher has written a number of books, including commentaries on the books of Job, Psalms, Ruth, Esther, and Romans, and also on preaching, the theology and practice of marriage, conscience, and how to care for our pastors. His most recent book is a four-volume Christ-centred commentary on the Psalms (Crossway, 2024). Christopher is married to Carolyn and they both work at Tyndale House in Cambridge, where Christopher is Writer-in-Residence and Carolyn is chaplain to the women members of staff. Christopher and Carolyn belong at Cambridge Presbyterian Church; they have been entrusted with three sons and a daughter and ‘lots of lovely grandchildren’!

Dr Chad van Dixhoorn

  • Dr. Chad Van Dixhoorn is Professor of Church History and Theology at Reformed Theological Seminary, Charlotte. A leading expert on the work of the Westminster Assembly, he completed a five-volume work of The Minutes and Papers of the Westminster Assembly, 1643-1652 (Oxford University Press). He is currently working on a major monograph on the Westminster Assembly, having recently completed an edition of John Lightfoot’s journals, also published with OUP. He is the editor most recently of John Arrowsmith’s Plans for Holy War, and serves as general editor of Works of Samuel Rutherford, which is to be published by Reformation Heritage Books in 22 volumes.

Mr Jake Matullia

  • Mr Matulia, a Hebrew speaker, has his MDiv from Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary and is currently a Cambridge postgraduate theology student.

Dr Stephen Moore

  • Dr. Stephen Moore teaches Hebrew and Old Testament across both the undergraduate and graduate programmes at Union Theological College in Belfast.

    He studied law as an undergraduate (St. Chad’s College, Durham), and then Theology (Oak Hill College, London). At Master’s level, he studied Semitic languages at UCL and Assyriology at SOAS, London (2013–2015), before moving to Leiden University for his PhD in Assyriology (2015–2020). He has served as fixed–term lecturer in Assyriology at Leiden University (2018, 2019) and, most recently, as lecturer in Hebrew and Old Testament at Union School of Theology, Wales.

    His research focuses on the cuneiform texts and history of the early second millennium BC (the ‘Old Babylonian period’), and he has two current book projects: one is a study of (legal) redemption in the Old Babylonian period, and the other provides text editions of an unpublished archive of cuneiform tablets housed in the British Museum.

Rev Chad Vegas

  • Chad Vegas is founding board chairman of Radius International, an organisation that trains missionaries to translate the scriptures for unreached languages groups and to plant churches. Chad’s ambition is that the gospel should be preached where Christ has not yet been named. He also serves as the founding pastor of Sovereign Grace Church in Bakersfield, California.

Rev Dr David McKay

  • Recently retired after over 40 years in pastoral ministry in the Reformed Presbyterian Church of Ireland, David McKay has served for 30 years as Professor of Systematic Theology, Ethics and Apologetics at the Reformed Theological College, Belfast.  He is also an Adjunct Professor at Kobe Theological Hall, Japan.  He is a graduate of the University of Ulster (BA), London University (BD), the Reformed Theological College and the Queen's University of Belfast (MTh and PhD).  He is the author of 'An Ecclesiastical Republic.  Church Government in the Writings of George Gillespie' (1997), 'The Bond of Love' (2001), 'A Christian's Pocket Guide to Humanity' (2021), 'Last Things' (2023) and 'A Spiritual Checkup' (2024) and has contributed to a number of books and journals.

STAFF

Mr Jonathan Winch

  • Jonathan joined Westminster in 2020 after a 31-year career in secondary education. He led the North East’s top state secondary school for twelve years before moving to assist a school in Special Measures in S Yorkshire. As Executive Principal he was also responsible for academic standards across a family of schools serving disadvantaged communities. A founding elder (and pianist) of All Saints Presbyterian Church, Jonathan is married to Julie. Beyond work, when not with their family or church family they love to walk, hand in hand, across windswept Wainwright fells.

Mr Jonathan Broom

  • Jono's background combines business and education: with fifteen years' management experience within large corporates, Jono has also owned and managed a pre-school in Johannesburg, South Africa, together with his wife. Jono and Isabel have four lovely daughters; formerly members of Rynfield Presbyterian Church in Benoni, South Africa, the family now worships at Durham Presbyterian Church. Jono plays the Blues Harmonica and is an enthusiastic runner.

Mr Paul Austin

  • With Masters degrees in both librarianship and theology, and having built the theological library of African Bible University under Dr O. Palmer Robertson, Paul has been able to realise his vision for a Reformed library in the heart of Newcastle that serves both students and the wider Christian community. To the additional roles of academic tutor and teacher of introductory Greek Paul brings prior experience as teacher of English, Greek and music. Married with two children, Paul and his family are members of Durham Presbyterian Church.

Rev Ken Kunkel

  • Rev. Ken Kunkel (MDiv, Erskine Theological Seminary) serves as the US Ambassador for Westminster Seminary UK. He most recently served as church planter and senior pastor of Grace Reformed Presbyterian Church in Clayton, North Carolina. He is also a US Army Chaplain assigned to the Institute of Religious Leadership at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Prior to entering ministry, he spent fifteen years in various roles in business sales and marketing. He is ordained in the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. Ken and his wife, Laura, have been married for 25 years and have three adult children.
