Florian Weicken
With a background in the Swiss Special Forces, Florian has recently returned to Switzerland to plant a Reformed Church in Zürich.
When asked about the foundation he received at Westminster, he references his Masters degree at Durham University following seminary studies, where his professor’s erroneous views provoked him to speak up—alone in the class. It was no mere intellectual exercise; Florian had learned that truth mattered. Now ministering in a context where liberalism has a grip on the Church, Florian is more thankful than ever for the theological clarity he received at Westminster.
“What stands out is the depth and breath of teaching. The lecturers are very gifted men, and the languages are taught at a high level that pushes you and helps you to push yourself.”
He financed his studies through the Knox Internship Programme, and is quick to acknowledge the benefit: regular opportunities to preach, first-hand experience of pastoral ministry, training in administration and the ability to use social media effectively.
So how has Westminster shaped his approach to ministry? His answer is clear: “I don’t only want to be generous with doctrine, I want to be generous with people.”
