THE STORY BEHIND THE CAMPAIGN

WHAT CAN SIXPENCE DO?

Black and white portrait of an elderly man with a long white beard and white hair, looking to the side.
Black and white photo of a boat docked in a harbor with buildings in the background, some with signs reading "Johnson's Spas" and "Blacksmiths, Boiler Makers."
Black and white map showing islands and surrounding water, with grid lines and some labels in small print.

When John Paton, the great missionary to the New Hebrides, needed a new mission ship, he hit on an unusual strategy.

He asked Sunday-school children to buy “shares” in the vessel, at a cost of sixpence each.

The response was overwhelming, and Paton was soon able to commission the Dayspring, “a white-winged Angel set a-floating by the pennies of the children”.

Some hundred and sixty years after Paton’s missionary labours, Vanuatu—a nation of only about 342,000 people—has more than 500 Presbyterian congregations, with around 78,000 members. The broader evangelical Protestant church may be twice this size.

That story is the inspiration for Give Sixpence: an invitation to families and friends of Westminster to help train those who will take the gospel to others.

WOULD YOU CONSIDER CONTRIBUTING YOUR OWN ‘SIXPENCE’ TO TRAIN UP A NEW GENERATION OF MINISTERS AND MISSIONARIES?

THE STUDENTS YOU’LL

STAND WITH

By God’s grace, Westminster is training more men for ministry than ever before. These men are preparing to serve Christ wherever He calls them.

Your support helps them train to teach His Word, shepherd His people and proclaim His gospel.

A family of three sitting on a black and white patterned couch in a cozy living room. The father is in the middle, smiling, wearing a black baseball cap with a gold fleur-de-lis, and a light blue T-shirt. The young boy on his lap wears a green paper crown, a colorful t-shirt with dinosaurs, and has a slightly surprised expression. The girl on the right, with long brown hair, holds a small brown puppy wrapped in a blanket and is smiling brightly. A large mirror with a decorative frame is on the wall behind them, reflecting a window with blue curtains.
